About
About Wooden Room
An editorial site about finishing interior rooms with wood and natural materials, written for the Canadian climate.
What this site is
Wooden Room publishes plain notes on a narrow subject: how wood and other natural materials behave when used to finish interior rooms in Canada. The recurring theme across the writing is seasonal humidity — the dry, heated winters that shape almost every material decision in a Canadian house.
How the writing is organised
Articles start from how a material behaves and move outward to the choices that follow. The three current topics are wood species selection, wall paneling methods, and natural oil and wax finishes. Each is meant to stand on its own and to link to the others where it helps.
On accuracy
The notes describe widely documented properties of common materials and methods. Where a precise figure would depend on a specific product, brand or test standard, the text stays general rather than inventing a number. Readers planning real work should confirm details against manufacturer instructions and local building requirements.
Images
Photographs are sourced from Wikimedia Commons under their respective Creative Commons licenses. They illustrate the materials and methods discussed and are not photographs of specific projects described in the text.
